Montessori Philosophy Of Education
At Gables Montessori School, our students flourish where tradition meets innovation. We are grounded in over a century of trusted, time-tested Montessori philosophy—an educational approach that honors the natural curiosity and potential of every child. Here, the wisdom of the past is thoughtfully blended with the best practices and forward-looking methods of today’s world, preparing our students to thrive in a future that is ever-evolving.
Montessori education recognizes children as capable, curious, and intrinsically motivated to learn. Within our carefully prepared and nurturing environment, students are encouraged to explore, discover, and grow at their own pace. This holistic approach nurtures the development of the whole child—mind, body, and spirit—fostering physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth.
At Gables Montessori, we stay true to the core of Montessori values while inspiring children to think independently, follow their passions, collaborate with purpose, and embrace the unknown with confidence. Our students are not only well-equipped academically—they are prepared to make meaningful choices, leave their unique mark on the world, and lead lives of impact, intention, and joy.
Peace Education
Peace education in Montessori is an integral part of the curriculum, fostering empathy, respect, and a deep sense of responsibility toward others and the world. Through purposeful lessons, conflict resolution practices, and a prepared environment that models kindness and collaboration, children learn to communicate peacefully, value diversity, and contribute to a harmonious community—laying the foundation for lifelong peacemaking.
Mixed-Age Classes
Our mixed-age classrooms offer children a unique opportunity to learn at their own pace while developing meaningful connections with peers. As students move through the roles of youngest, middle, and oldest in the classroom community, they gain a well-rounded perspective—learning from older classmates, practicing with peers, and eventually mentoring younger ones. This structure fosters leadership, empathy, and collaboration, while reinforcing academic skills as older students deepen their understanding by teaching others. The result is a nurturing, dynamic environment where every child grows intellectually, socially, and emotionally.
Two and Three-Year Cycle
At Gables Montessori, students remain in the same classroom community for two to three years, allowing teachers to develop a deep understanding of each child’s unique learning style, progress, and potential. This extended time together supports a spiraling curriculum, where concepts are revisited and built upon, leading to deeper academic comprehension. It also gives children the opportunity to practice, refine, and master skills at their own pace—fostering confidence, independence, and lasting growth beyond what is typically possible in a traditional classroom setting.
Montessori Materials
Our carefully crafted, hands-on materials encourage deep understanding and independent discovery through meaningful, tactile experiences. These materials guide students from concrete exploration to abstract thinking, supporting each stage of their cognitive development in a purposeful and engaging way.
Prepared Environment
Our classrooms are intentionally designed to offer choice within a structured environment, empowering students to take ownership of their learning. This thoughtful balance fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills by providing the physical and mental space needed to explore, discover, focus, and grow at their own pace.
Joy of Learning
Within a thoughtfully prepared structure, students are encouraged to follow their curiosity and pursue their individual goals, leading to deeper understanding and meaningful learning. While children explore and engage with materials, teachers closely observe their progress and gently guide them toward choices that support and strengthen their development.
Grace and Courtesy
Grace and courtesy are fundamental to the Montessori philosophy, with compassion and respect modeled by every member of the community. These values are woven into daily life and the curriculum, giving students ongoing opportunities—both in the classroom and through service learning projects—to practice being thoughtful, engaged, and respectful contributors to their community.
